Hover Scree
Found in large chunks in the underside of floating islands, hover scree gains it’s name from the fact that it is impossible to harvest without breaking it down into many thousands of small stones which are only slightly more course than sand. In these large deposits hover “scree” can support 100 times it’s own weight however when harvested hover scree only becomes neutrally buoyant in air. To make things worse it is impossible to make something out of solely hover scree. Not only are the large deposits too brittle to attempt to shape but it is impossible to compress hover scree into larger objects for it to still keep it’s lighter than air properties. Hover scree can be ground down into a finer dust or powder but only ever finds use as an additive. Folded into metals, woven into fabrics, etc. Hover scree results in making the same object lighter at an exact ratio but also makes objects significantly more brittle.
Normal use:
Societies built near floating islands use the vast majority of hover scree objects. Indeed if one wants a hover scree enhanced object one would typically have to make their way to one of these societies. A number of such societies have exhausted the natural resources of their surroundings, having effectively grounded floating islands however are easily identified in that construction in such societies is typically much bigger than it is in non-hover scree enabled societies. Indeed the vast majority of hover scree is used in construction. There being little issue making towers several thousand feet straight up when the construction workers can lift blocks as big as they are with one hand.
Relic examples:
Swift: One of the three blades that was broken down to make triple fissure. Hover scree forged with an already lightweight metal alloy where every aspect of the weapon was built for speed drawing. It is said that none have ever seen the blade. It either cutting through enemies and being resheathed in a single clean action. Or bouncing off of armour and being resheathed with just as much speed as it was taken out with. Many replicas and re-creations exist. Some are even considered relics. Even experts with these replicas cannot match the speed an amateur can get out of swift.
