Over the years I have written fiction for I typically write more fantasy than I do other types of fiction. Not to say that I haven’t written other themes, one of my more popular short stories was si-fi themed but for every 10 stories I’ve written around 8 are fantasy. The reasoning for this is quite simple. I’ve developed fantasy more than I have other themes, most of the fantasy I write ending up being connected in some way shape or form to a world named Askellion. Having a world with 500 years of history, the most recent 83 of which having alternate timelines due to finicky time magic, most topics fit somewhere and it’s easier to work around existing rules and events with that than it is to start from nothing. Even if I just take some of the species from Askellion, put them on a planet with a different name and work from that can be easier than starting from nothing and in some cases, it is interesting to theorise how a society would have developed differently if separated from its neighbours. One of my favourites was converting a powerful militant society with a fixed geographical location into a more nomadic trading society with little more than a change in natural resources. So while not all fantasy stories technically occur on Askellion they are connected too Askellion. As such non-fantasy Creative brainstorming falls under the sub-topic named non-Askellion.

Currently the two other sub-topics of Creative brainstorming are named magic and species. Askellion is more developed than this, having a number of geographical climates and an extensive history and these may get sub-topics of their own in the future but I don’t believe geography to be interesting (I do not have the most talent for art if I’m creating without a reference) and history currently resides in one rather large table. Similarly Magic and species are selected as starting topics for the opposite reasons. Magic on Askellion being something I’ve developed for over a year and has a number of quirks that I’d find to be interesting and the species of Askellion is one of the most organised topics having a number of different neighbours systems to work with leading to a self-explanatory organisation process.
