If the inhabitants of Askellion were asked how many types of magic there are they would say two. You ask me or anyone from earth, they’d say three. This is because the third is technically magical from our point of view but on the world of Askellion the third is less magical and more a series of natural resources. As such this topic has three main sections:
- Arcane Magic: The first magic to exist, and existed several hundered years before the discovery of the other types. Arcane magic back in the day was excessively slow and extremely experimental. Taking days, if not weeks to peform with little to no idea what the resulting outcome would be. Since the longest of Arcane magics now take 5 seconds and arcane magicians typically stick to a small selection of glyphs where the final outcome is known.
- Classical Magic: Developed through the indepth analysis of Arcane magic. Classical magic is much slower than modern arcane magic, taking of the order of minutes to hours but is highly controlled and much more flexible. Where arcane magic requires dedicating glyphs to memory or reading them from a grimoire and hoping there’s something with the indended effect with classical magic you know it will do exactly what is required from it.
- Object Magic: Formed from failed arcane magics, the leaking of magic to the enviroment and so on object magic is not considered a magic as much as it is a resource. Similar to how common sense dictates that wood will not have the same properties as metal.
