Welcome to ellcome. A website basically powered by one man’s free time and boredom. As such the things I expect to cover typically come under one of two topics. Idle ponderings and creative brainstorming.

Idle ponderings: Every so often I will ask myself a question which has little to nothing to do with anything I’m actually doing. An example of this from shortly before this website was made was the question “If I took all the nerves in the average human, lay them end to end, attached them together, wove the resulting string into a sheet, how big would the sheet be?” After a few hours of research, some basic math and fixing a mistake that came from mixing up the length of the circulatory system and the length of the nervous system I got a value somewhere between a 50 and 60 cm square. I intend Idle ponderings to end up becoming a collection of these questions, the approach of working out the answers, the sources used to get the final answer and a brief description as to how accurate I actually expect the result to be.

Creative Brainstorming: I have been writing fiction in my spare time for 6 years. The longer of these pieces have never seen the outside world, and I have little intention to share these pieces. To add some context the longest  is a trilogy of stories each around 20,000 words long written a few years ago. Not only would I not want to put others through that but I’d like to think my writing as evolved since then. I have shared number of smaller stories with the internet elsewhere and I don’t intend to re-write these either. Instead I intend creative brainstorming to become more of a world building exercise. Small notes about the things I’ve designed which I either haven’t gotten around to using, or have used but never really had the opportunity to describe the intricacies of. Creative Brainstorming not anywhere near as scientific as Idle ponderings, but a way I’ve spent my time when random questions don’t come up.
